Talc is the softest known mineral, and that softness — combined with high whiteness and hydrophobicity — makes it a widely used filler in paint, plastics, paper, ceramics and rubber. In the plastics industry talc raises the stiffness and heat resistance of polypropylene. Whiteness and particle fineness are the two main pricing criteria.
