Carbon-black loaded — for sun-exposed parts and pipe

Black compounds are coloured with carbon black, which beyond colour is also the most effective protection against ultraviolet light — provided the particle size is fine and the dispersion even. That is why water and gas pipe, cable sheathing and outdoor parts are so often black. The usual loading in protected grades is around 2% to 2.5%; poor dispersion nullifies that protection.
