Unlike mineral fillers, glass fibre genuinely carries mechanical load and multiplies the tensile and flexural strength of polypropylene. That load transfer depends on a maleic-anhydride coupling agent bridging the polar fibre and the non-polar matrix; without it the fibre acts only as an expensive filler. The fibre length surviving the process is what determines the final properties.
| Reinforcement | Glass fibre 10–40% |
|---|---|
| Coupling agent | Maleic anhydride grafted PP |
| Tensile strength | 45–110 MPa |
| Density | 0.98–1.22 g/cm³ |
