Polyethylene compounds are built on an HDPE or LDPE base and, depending on the application, take stabiliser, slip, anti-block or carbon-black additives. The melt flow index of the base determines the processing route: low-MFI grades for pipe and sheet extrusion, higher grades for injection moulding. The base density in turn sets the final stiffness and chemical resistance.
