Polyamide 6 (nylon 6) has high wear and fatigue resistance and is used in gears, bushings, fittings and under-bonnet automotive parts. The point to take seriously in processing is moisture pick-up: the granules must be thoroughly dried before moulding, otherwise the polymer chain breaks down in the melt and the part turns brittle. Glass-fibre reinforced and impact-modified grades are also available.
