Polyolefins degrade under sunlight: chains break, the surface chalks and the part turns brittle and faded. A UV-stabilised compound normally combines a hindered amine light stabiliser (HALS) with a UV absorber, and serves irrigation pipe, outdoor furniture, agricultural film and building façade components. Guaranteed service life is expressed in exposure hours or in years for the destination climate, since irradiance is not the same everywhere.
